About
About The Ohio Catch
Everything Ohio: politics, business, sports, the outdoors and what is happening in your town.
The Ohio Catch covers all of Ohio: the Statehouse and city halls, business and banking, schools, sports, the outdoors and Lake Erie, and news from six regions and the cities in them.
How our stories are made
Our stories are written with AI from public reports and records: newspapers, public radio and TV newsrooms, state agencies, regulators, company announcements, filings, and city council minutes. Each story is a summary in our own words that uses only the facts in those sources. It names every source and links to it, and each paragraph is numbered back to its source.
Stories are checked against their sources before they are published. Each story shows two dates: when we published it and the date of the report or event it describes.
How we audit local government
Our Auditing Dublin series starts from the public record. Every paragraph is labeled: Record when a document says it, Our math when we counted or compared figures from records, Open question when the records don't answer it yet, and Records conflict when two official records disagree. We show campaign finance totals and link the filings rather than republishing individual donors' names.
We will ask the officials involved to respond and add their answers, with the date we asked. A listed vote, contribution or contract is a public record, not a finding of wrongdoing.
